STI Screening and Treatment

Regular STI screening is an important part of maintaining your sexual health. Testing can help detect common sexually transmitted infections early, allowing timely treatment and reducing the risk of complications or transmission to partners.

Whether you have symptoms, a new partner, multiple partners, or simply want peace of mind, Dr Marcel can provide confidential advice on appropriate testing and arrange pathology requests that can be completed at your local pathology provider. Results will be reviewed promptly, and follow-up provided. Some infections can be treated via e-scripts or you may be directed to a GP or sexual health for in-person treatment if required.

Sexual Health Vaccinations

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent several sexually transmitted infections. Depending on your age, lifestyle and individual risk factors, Dr Marcel can provide advice regarding recommended vaccinations, including:

  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Mpox

Vaccination recommendations vary between individuals, and a personalised assessment can help determine which vaccines may be beneficial for you.

STI Prevention (DoxyPEP)

DoxyPEP involves taking a dose of doxycycline shortly after sex to reduce the risk of certain bacterial sexually transmitted infections, including chlamydia and syphilis.

DoxyPEP is a relatively new prevention strategy that may be appropriate for some individuals at increased risk of STIs. It is not suitable for everyone and should be used as part of a broader sexual health plan that includes regular STI screening and other prevention measures.

Dr Marcel Kalau can discuss whether DoxyPEP may be appropriate for you, explain the potential benefits and limitations, and provide an e-script where appropriate.

HIV Prevention (PrEP)

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a highly effective medication that can significantly reduce the risk of acquiring HIV when taken as prescribed.

Dr Marcel Kalau provides confidential telehealth consultations for individuals considering PrEP, including risk assessment, baseline testing, prescriptions and ongoing monitoring. Whether you’re starting PrEP for the first time, restarting treatment, or looking for continued care, you’ll receive personalised advice and support tailored to your needs.

Regular follow-up includes HIV testing, STI screening and monitoring of kidney function to ensure PrEP remains safe and effective.
